The history of the Adega da Cartuxa was written by the Eugénio de Almeida family, and the Foundation was created by Vasco Maria Eugénio de Almeida, with the commitment to do more for people and more for more people.

The expansion of the Casa Agrícola Eugénio de Almeida led to the planting of vineyards which produced the oldest wines of the Foundation, enabling the development of the winegrowing activity and the affirmation of one of the most prestigious wineries in the Alentejo.

The 600 hectares of vineyards in Évora are worked individually in plots in order to choose the best grapes for the best wines of the Adega, some of which are produced annually with different grape varieties.

Cartuxa | Fundação EA

The Cartuxa Winery is located in Quinta de Valbom, which was acquired by José Maria Eugénio de Almeida at the end of the 19th century.

The proximity to the Cartuxa Monastery would come to be responsible for its name, but the winery is located in the old resting house of the Jesuits - Society of Jesus - , expelled by the Marquis of Pombal.
