Viúva Gomes winery is located in the Lisbon region, in the Colares Denomination of Origin, the westernmost in Europe. Founded in 1808, where we can still find the original building, it has been preserved for over 30 years by the Baeta family, José and Diogo Baeta, father and son.
The history and culture of the wine-growing region are perpetuated by a passion for wine, where traces of vines date back to the 13th century, when King Afonso III gave land to nobles on the condition that they implement its cultivation.
Today, we still find the vines of the iconic Ramisco and Malvasia de Colares varieties planted free-standing on sandy soils that resisted phylloxera, probably due to the great depth of their roots, up to 8 metres.
